Chalet for singles/solo skiers at Christmas
Filed Under pistepals
This chalet represents a significant saving on many of the other chalets in the area - which are leading with £580+ for any bed at xmas!
Details are as follows;
The chalet was designed and built in the 1960s by a local architect - Morin - for his own use and therefore we believe that it is a unique property. It certainly has a quirky retro 70s feel which clients and friends seem to love. The chalet is especially good for large groups. The chalet offers unparalleled accommodation in terms of sheer living space and value for money.
The chalet is large and comfortable with living space of over 450sqm (4500 sq feet) and great for groups of all ages. The lounge is truly enormous at 25 x 25 foot and offers adults a quiet haven in the evening
Bedroom 1 double £525 (if sole occupancy) or £450 if twin occupancy
Bedroom 2 twin £465 en-suite
Bedroom 3 twin £450

. Facilities include:-
A hot tub seating 8-9

Sky TV in the lounge and TV room
Ski guiding on 3 days
Digital music and film libraries.
Evening lifts into town every evening
Pre-booked lift passes and equipment to avoid delays on arrival
Free internet access with a terminal in the TV room and WIFI access throughout the chalet
Basement games room with table tennis, table football, darts and 2 gaming stations with X-box and Playstation.
A huge vaulted library / TV room with books, TV with Sky and an internet terminal.
2500 m2 garden with plenty of secure parking if required
Massive 56m2 living room with inglenook fireplace, widescreen TV with Sky
Separate dining room
Tea and coffee making facilities available 24 hours a day
Fantastic food / exceptional service
Lunch packages available (supplement)
All inclusive drinks packages available (supplement)
Airport transfers can be arranged (supplement of 25e pp each way)
The chalet is available fully catered and all meals are prepared by our chef assisted by 2 chalet hosts. Cooked breakfast is available on 6 mornings. Wednesday is the staff day off and so a cold buffet will be laid out for you. Breakfast typically consists of porridge and a choice of cereals, freshly baked bread, toast, pain au chocolat and croissants, jams and preserves, eggs, sausages, bacon and tomatoes, fruit, yoghurts and a selection of teas, freshly filtered coffee and a choice of fruit juice.
Breakfast is cooked to order for each guest.
Afternoon tea is provided daily with a selection of home made cakes and pastries served with a selection of teas, freshly filtered coffee and hot chocolate.
A four course dinner will be served on 6 evenings to the adults and will be served with complimentary local bottled wines. All the meals are hearty and use fresh local ingredients. The food is a fusion of traditional Savoyarde with a modern European twist.
A typical evening menu would be:-
Caramelised onion and camembert tart
Coq au Vin with rock salt roasted potatoes, honey roasted carrots and broccoli
Pain au chocolat bread and butter pudding
A selection of local cheese
Freshly filtered coffee and mints.
All dietary requirements can be catered for from vegetarian through to vegan as well as coeliac and any allergies including nut, wheat dairy etc. We ask for dietary requirements about 4 weeks prior to the start of the holiday.
They also offer unlimited wine and beer packages which are available until midnight every day, for a weekly supplement of 45 euros pppw (payable locally). Additionally we offer packed lunches or restaurant packages – all of which make it easier for the group to budget for their holiday. We also arrange airport transfers, ski hire direct to chalet, lift passes and ski lessons. We would take the group out ski guiding on 3 days and can cope with all abilities although we do insist that guests can get on and off a chair lift and can ski withour falling down a green or blue run.
We would have 2 ski guides available and would split the group by ability so one beginner / internediate and one intermediate / advanced. The groups would probably meet up for lunch so movement between the groups would be possible.
Quiz nights are always popular as are table tennis tournaments. As discussed we are happy to arrange for 2 pick ups in town in the evenings - at 1am and at 2am (or earlier if we don’t fancy a late one!). These lifts would carry a small charge of 5 euros pp. We attempt to take as much of the organisation away from you as possible – we can arrange the transfers, ski hire, lessons and lift passes. We use online systems which each member of your group can access to book their ski equipment, lift passes, transfers and any other extras that they may want.
Morzine is a fabulous place to ski with a large group as there is something for everybody from beginners through to advanced. It is a traditional ski village but with lots of apres-ski activity including fabulius restaurants, bars and nightclubs as well as an ice skating rink, evening skiing and their famous ice hockey team. The ski schools are excellent and all instructors speak fabulous English. We have links in to an English ski school and are happy to offer advice. The Portes du Soleil offers 650km of great skiing from the infamous Wall through to skiing over to and enjoying lunch in Switzerland.
I’ll just leave you with 2 unsolicited emails from previous guests:-
“I just wanted to let you know that we had a fantastic holiday. Your house is superb and we easily relaxed into it. The service we received from the start was of an extremely high standard. The little touches such as allowing us to choose our meal on the first night was brilliant. Your chef was amazing. Having done catered chalets before we were expecting high standards and the cooking far exceeded anything we had previously had”
Nicky. Feb Half term 2008
We have been back from the holiday for two weeks now and we are still all buzzing from the great time we had. The accommodation exceeded expectation and was most comfortable. In particular the we all felt that the holiday was enhanced by the superb hosting of Sandie, Marshall & Toby. They were really excellent! Their manner was welcoming, very helpful most friendly yet also discrete. - What a team! Also the food was spot on - flavoursome and filling so a real credit to Rob, your chef, too. Please pass our thanks and appreciation to them all and take credit where it is due for your appointment of such an excellent staff group. With much thanks and praise

Ski for less. Budget Chalet Holidays
Due to the recession and low value of the pound, many chalets are willing to offer very good deals to get you out to the mountains. My top picks are;
**Courchevel 21st Feb, 28th Feb or 21st March 2009. £389**
The Hotel Chanrossa is a character chalet hotel built in the traditional Savoyarde style typical to this region of the alps. Located right in the heart of Courchevel 1550 it is situated just 150 meters from the foot of the slopes and the main Telecabine linking 1550 to Courchevel 1850. This lift remains open in the evening so you can easily get to the chic centre of Courchevel 1850, or alternatively why not relax in the hotel’s own comfortable bar.
**4 *Chalets in La Rosiere and Sainte Foy £400 selected weeks in Feb/March**
**Morzine Short Breaks**
Sunday 1st to Wednesday 4th February 2009. At Cairn Lodge price €295 pp for a 3 night stay, 2 day full area lift pass and return transfers to Geneva.

Trying to think of snow
I’m trying to get myself into a snowy mood recently but due to the shocking/non-existant summer we have had - I’m a little obsessed with chasing the sun.
So i’m hopefully organising a trip to Egypt. Which should satisfy my soleil cravings. Meantime, I need to work on a way to promote the Chalet Consultant brand in the cheapest possible way - competing with the big boys on google adwords isn’t producing enough traffic or people are clicking through (and using up my budget!) but not getting in contact.
If you read this, and you’ve clicked from Google but weren’t going to get in touch - would you just mind taking the time to drop me a mail anyway and just let me know what you were looking for and why the site didn’t provide it?

To buy or not to buy….
This is the time of year when you can pick up some great bargains on ski equipment and you may be enticed by some exciting offers - half price skis and such. It can be very tempting to grab that pair of skis for £150….however…. is it really worth it?
Boots
When it comes to boots….yes, yes, yes!! Buy your own. As soon as humanely possible, it will improve your skiing (or boarding) no end, as hire boots are uncomfortable and sometimes even painful. A good pair of boots should communicate what’s happening underneath your skis and allow you to make the changes necessary to improve your skills.
It is very important to get them fitted correctly. Don’t buy them off ebay and expect them to do the job- they need tailored to your feet by a professional.
The downside - boots are HEAVY! They’ll take up at least a few kilos in your hold luggage. There’s a few ways round it - in order to allow extra room for pressies on the way home!
*A sneaky way round i have found is to put your boots in your cabin luggage. Mine are pretty big and they fitted into a zip round, expandable mini suitcase. you could also put them in a rucksack type bag. Kiddies can put their’s in the cute little bags on wheels you get for them these days.
*Boots go into your ski carry case. They charge you £30 regardless of the weight, so squeeze in several pairs if you can.
Skis or Snowboards
This one is a little vaguer.. Snowboards more so as they are quite personal (due to the print or design) It depends if you are racing off on your own or not. It’s a little easier for solo travellers as you can just kick off, chuck your clothes in your ski bag and worry not! Also if you plan to get away more than once a year, whether it’s up to Scotland, Summer skiing on a glacier or in Chile then it becomes not only more economical but you will get your money’s worth. The general consensus is to hire for as long as you can hold out…
If you are a family of 4 - lugging 4 pairs of skis, 4 pairs of boots AND all your suitcases is a bit much. So perhaps mum and dad buy their own but the kids get the rental version (also cheaper) This means lless maintenance throughout the year, takes up less space in the house and less to carry around at the airport!

How to look good on the piste
This article was posted in 2006 on my other site - www.twistedfairy.com but thought it should make an appearance on my new blog! One piece ski suits are a heinous fashion crime in any year. : - )
There’s somewhere on earth that seems to defy all laws of fashion and common sense. It’s a place where neon is still deemed acceptable and unflattering one-piece outfits can be found on every corner. Where is this lawless place where the fashion police dare to tread, I hear you ask? The ski slopes.
If you are considering putting your carefully manicured toes on the powder this Winter – here’s some suggestions that will having you look more like Kate Moss and less like Bridget Jones.
Some guidelines to follow;
Don’t do one pieces.
They make your bum look big, they very rarely come in black and it looks like you are wearing a wetsuit when you walk around with the jacket tied around your waist at lunch. You may only ever break this rule if the one piece is black Prada and your name is Mrs Victoria Beckham or Kate Moss.
Subtlety is the best policy.
Never mind honesty, this simple rule will breeze you through a sea of grungy metallics and neon stripes right into the après-ski bars. Keep extra colours to a minimum by choosing jackets with discrete accent colours, such as lime, orange, red or the candy colours that are popular at the moment.
Most expensive is not always the best.
With high street retailers contributing excellent ranges to the skiing cause – you won’t need to hunt for the expensive specialist ski shops in the far flung corners of your town – try your local TopShop, Marks and Spencer or Asda for a great range of technical jackets and salopettes and an abundance of hats, gloves, scarves and fleeces.
If you are just starting out - ebay is also a great place to pick up cheap seperates or 2nd hand goods. Don’t buys skis, boots or boards as you will want to be fitted for the boots and it’s worth determining your style and trying out a few demo boards/skis before picking the one that is right for you.
Family ensembles
Coordinating mum’s, dad’s and kiddies outfits maybe cool to you. To everyone else you are a source of amusement and people will begin to throng around you wondering if you are about to burst into song.
The moral of the story….
Don’t spend your entire budget on a really cool and sexy ski outfit then find you’ve got no money left to buy your lift pass or food. Or even worse – drink.
